Position: BNV Initiative Associate Organization: Youth Speaks Supervisor: BNV Initiative Director ABOUT YOUTH SPEAKS Youth Speaks is a multi-faceted organization that understands that the power, insight, creativity, and passion of young people can change the world. Founded in 1996 in San Francisco, Youth Speaks is the leading nonprofit presenter of Spoken Word performance, education, and youth development programs in the country. Youth Speaks annually convenes the Brave New Voices Festival, and houses The Living Word Project, a repertory theater company. During our 17 years of existence, we have built important relationships with local and national funders, schools, nonprofits, artists, individual supporters, health and environmental institutions, and other partners. Position Overview Youth Speaks is seeking a high-energy and entrepreneurial individual to serve as Brave New Voices (BNV) Initiative Associate, a new multi-year program that will transform Youth Speaks and our partners in the field. The position will provide a talented individual the chance to work closely with the leadership of Youth Speaks and consultants to support the structure, operations and evaluations for a dynamic capacity-building program for the field of arts and education organizations. This support will serve the Brave New Voices Network. The BNV Initiative aims to provide the field multiple types of capacity-building opportunities, including leadership development, grants, staffing support, and increased collaboration and peer-learning through a new web portal and in-person convenings. RESPONSIBILITIES Program Support Support the structure and operational plan for the Initiative, in collaboration with senior staff and consultants. Support director to design grant and technical assistance programs for the Initiative, including eligibility, application materials and process, matching fund guidelines, use of funds, communications strategy, and internal processes and systems, with support from senior staff. Support the launch of Programmatic Grants Program. Develop metrics to measure success of initiative, based on current numbers of youth served, effectiveness of programs delivered, capacity of organizations to deliver programs, and effectiveness of network and leadership. Engage internal and external experts to facilitate convenings, workshops and one-on-one consulting engagements. Develop translatable and scalable model of successful arts education/youth development programs that are centered in unified pedagogy and practice, including the ability to assess organizational health and scaling potential that can be utilized for grant-making, individual consulting engagements, cohort training, and evaluation. Support the assessment of programmatic and infrastructure needs using surveys, web-based forums, interviews, and other tools. Adopt and maintain strong project management systems, including project management software, project budgets, and other tools. Ensure maintenance, accuracy and timeliness of information in Salesforce database, and be able to analyze and utilize data. Generate quarterly reports to Initiative funders and the Board, and monthly reports for senior management. Qualifications The right candidate will be a self-motivated thinker and an ability to prioritize diverse demanding responsibilities in a fast-paced, creative environment. Minimum of two years of experience working in the nonprofit sector. Strong interest in Youth Speaks and working on the launch of a national field-building project. High comfort level with technology. Demonstrated experience in project management, including utilizing software to manage tasks, correspondence and deliverables. Demonstrated experience being a team player and a willingness to roll up sleeves to get everything necessary accomplished. Experience as a grant-maker or grants manager, and as a grant applicant/recipient is desired. Knowledge of Salesforce or similar database/CRM application. Ability to work accurately and quickly. Experience in arts, youth development, or civic engagement organizations a plus. BA or equivalent required.
