Cyphers for Justice

Cyphers for Justice (CFJ) is a youth and educator development program within the Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME) at Teachers College-Columbia University. CFJ apprentices inner-city youth and preservice teachers as critical researchers through the use of hip hop, spoken word, digital literacy, and critical social research methods via after school programs at TC and the College Now program at Queens College.

Founded within the traditions of Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) and hip hop culture, CFJ youth work alongside Columbia University and Queens College graduate students, professors, and community-based teaching artists, to conduct research and present their findings on relevant social issues.
