Raw Art Works
Raw Art Works (RAW) is a 27-year-old nationally recognized creative youth development organization in Lynn, MA. RAW's mission is to ignite the desire to create and the confidence to succeed in our youth. Youth ages 7-19 participate in a total of over 50 free arts programs, including an award-winning film school, visual and expressive arts groups, spoken word groups, single gender groups, mentoring and leadership development programs, and paid teen employment and college access programs. Each year we serve over 500 youth and over 1,200 youth in community outreach initiatives. Rooted in art therapy, with groups led by master’s-level art therapists and/or teaching artists, we strive to deeply engage youth and ensure that they are seen and heard in all of our arts and humanities programming. Since our inception, our teaching artists have combined compelling questions with bold art and writing concepts, inspiring youth to tell their stories, develop their skills, make connections, and make art that cannot be ignored because of the quality and content.
The Art of Words programming at RAW offers workshops, weekly groups, and year-long literary and writing groups. This past year, 139 youth participated. In 2015 RAW's high school Spoken Word team made it to the “Louder Than a Bomb” semi-finals - placing in the top 10 out of 36 programs in the state.
