The 2 Cents Movement

The 2 Cents Movement is a youth-led NGO that uses performance art (primarily spoken word poetry) in youth development work which aims to create socially responsible young citizens. We think of ourselves as communication specialists for engaging youth on social issues.

Annually, we coordinate outreach in over 50 secondary schools, 30 primary schools and curate a conscious art series in universities, namely UWI USC, UTT - U.We Speak, USC Speak and UTT Speak. We have developed the National Poetry Slam, Secondary School Spoken Word Intercol and National Primary School Spoken Word showcase - all as spaces for youth to express thoughts and feelings on issues and to be heard. We also train a cohort of artists that perform on many platforms throughout the year on a variety of issues. Currently we are building writing and performance clubs throughout our secondary school network. We do what we do full time and treat it as a viable profession.
