The Oral Tradition ROOTS Foundation

A non-profit organization incorporated in November 2009 under the Companies Act, 1995 to facilitate the social arm of Reflections of Our Oral TraditionS (“ROOTS”), which was launched in September 2005. Registered in June 2014 under the Artist Registry of the Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism, The Oral Tradition ROOTS Foundation has a mandate to develop spoken word poetry and other oral traditional forms as a catalyst for social change in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as in the Caribbean and at international levels. In doing so, ROOTS Foundation seeks to develop the following:

To revive the lost oral tradition of our ancestors;
To sensitize the community of the need to continue this tradition;
To provide a medium for the expressions of talented poets; and
To provide a medium for educative and informative reading

To prepare generations of PEOPLE for the attainment and maintenance of lost oral traditions of the Ancestors of the people of Trinidad and Tobago through the design and implementation of programmes which teach them the expression of Talented Poets, Educative and Informative Reading and the need to continue traditions.

The Oral Tradition ROOTS Foundation is committed to reviving the oral traditions, promoting youth leadership and encouraging community development through the use of oral traditional genres and youth mentorship, thereby empowering our youth and communities in enhancing their creative talent and leadership capabilities
