The mission of WHUT television, the nation’s only Public Broadcasting Television station owned and operated by a historically Black University, is to deliver educational, entertaining and intellectually stimulating multi‐cultural and intergenerational programming to the public in the Metro DC region.
In 2011, WHUT launched the American Graduate Digital Media Arts programs in Washington, DC. The mission of the program is to engage, educate and empower students. Participants gain hands-on training in audio production, video production, social media, and presentation development. WHUT has hosted the American Graduate Digital Media Arts program at Ballou Senior High School, Anacostia Senior High School, Paul Public Charter School, Anacostia Neighborhood Library, CentroNia, United Planning Organization (UPO), Washington Metropolitan High School (DC MET) and Girls Inc. In the past, participants have shown that skills gained in the club can positively impact academic achievement, attendance, engagement in the classroom and spark interest in media related careers.
