Writopia Lab DC

Writopia Lab is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in New York City in April of 2007. We are a not-for-profit organization that fosters joy, literacy, and critical thinking in children and teens from all backgrounds through creative writing. We run creative writing workshops for kids ages 6 to 18. All of our workshops have a maximum of seven students and are led by a published author or produced playwright who has been fully trained in our time-tested methodology. In each of the past six years, our students have won more recognition for their writing than any other group of students in the nation.

Writopia DC holds workshops for kids ages 6 – 18 in creative, expository/analytical, and college essay writing.  Our fall, winter, and spring workshops meet weekly for ten 1.5 hour after-school or weekend sessions and are capped at seven writers each.  At the beginning of a workshop, each student chooses to write in the genre of his or her choice for the week (i.e. humor, realistic fiction, science fiction, fantasy, memoir, poetry, scripts, or journalism). Teens usually focus on completing one piece over the week; our younger writers sometimes write several stories.
