Young DFW Writers
Young DFW Writers is the local organization bringing Louder Than A Bomb to the Dallas/Ft.Worth area. We have also cultivated partnerships with local nonprofits, businesses and universities to engage students in creative writing and civic duty. In our two year history, we are in as many schools as other youth-centered poetry organizations in our area. Next year we will be in more schools than any other organization with similar goals in the Metroplex. We are partnered with some of the biggest non-profits and universities in DFW creating programs and events that create change in our community.
Louder than A Bomb is a 10 or 20-week writing program. The workshops combine old school craft techniques with new school poetics. The students are challenged to study craft through critical examination of literary greats, modern leaders in the genre, and through examiniation of the lyrics of Hiphop. Cultivation of the critical voice of the student with emphasis on creating self-definition and definition of the world around the student culminates when we bring all the students together for the Crossing the Street (which kicks off the LTAB festival) and the actual metroplex-wide poetry slam. This program takes place at schools twice a week either during the lunch hour or after classes are done for the day. Every teaching artist is a nationally recognized poet and writer and has completed the rigorous LTAB Teaching Artist Training Program.
