I Want to Live was developed to provide space for the stories of young men of color who have been harassed, profiled, and or brutalized by police to be heard. In an effort to demonstrate the magnitude of this growing crisis, we have developed a workshop curriculum that provides a format for educators, parents, community members and young people themselves to create space for these stories to be shared.
Currently there is a downloadable version (PDF) of the lesson plan, and guidelines for posting stories. Coming soon, we will develop a fully digital version of the workshop, and ways for you to book Youth Speaks poet-mentors to deliver the workshop to the young men in your community.
The interactive workshop video will ultimately provide opportunities for young people to participate on their own.
