School-Based Programs for 2009-2010 school-year

Since 1996, Youth Speaks has worked with over half a million Bay Area youth, and over 45,000 annually. Each year we partner with Bay Area schools in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Daly City, Richmond, San Rafael, and beyond, to provide opportunities for students and teachers to pursue the power of the written and spoken word. We are committed to the idea that all students have something valuable to say, and that through our unique program model we can help students develop, publicly present and apply their voices.

We are now booking for school-year 2009-2010. With six different programs to offer we hope that there is something for every school.

School Visit Program:
Bring a group of poets and spoken word artists to your campus for writing workshops and a performance poetry assembly.

S.L.A.M. Clubs (Student Led Arts Movement):
Support the development of a student led Youth Speaks club on your campus, eligible for project grants and partner with the greater SLAM Union.

Residency Program:
Choose from 3 levels of standard-based in-school residencies facilitated by trained Youth Speaks Poet-Mentors.

On-Campus After-School Workshops:
Receive a ten-week after-school workshop designed specically for individual Middle and High School campuses.

SFUSD & OUSD High School Poetry Slams:
Participate in the San Francisco Unied School District or Oakland Unied School District High School Poetry Slams and celebrate the
powerful voices of students throughout the districts.

Professional Development for Teachers:
Get to know more about Youth Speaks pedagogy and methodologies through varying levels of professional development programs for teachers, organizations and schools.

A limited number of partially and fully subsidized programs in Oakland and San Francisco will be available on a first come first serve basis.
