About The Slam

In 1996, we hosted the country’s first-ever teen poetry slam. Forty-three young poets participated, with hundreds turned away at the door. Now, the annual event features close to 200 youth writers, emcees, and performers from throughout the Bay Area and Northern California, and attracts nearly 10,000 audience members. Our first slam became the seed that sowed a global youth poetry movement.

Our first slam sparked a global movement of brave new voices.

It is Slam Season! Come out to a bout near you and see young poets gracing the stage. Young poets, it’s not too late to register. Grand Slam Finals will take place at the historic Nourse Theater on Saturday, April 8 at 7:00pm.
